Those engines and heads were designed to use lead gasoilne. Unless you have hardened valve seats its best to use an additive. Thats why some people desire LP gas heads for their tractors (they have hardened valve seats). The best and cheapest additive to use is 2-cycle oil. Its designed to stay mixed with the gas unlike some other products that are more expensive (marvel mystery). I have a rebuilt JD model M that i mow with. I've mowed for a year w/o out adding oil and nothing happened but I add oil now. Its cheap and good insurance. No smoke visible either when I use the 2-cycle oil so dont worry about that. Use 1 oz/gallon.
