I was told they were pretty rare but since mine has the factory hydraulics I tend to notice this feature more on other tractors. The hydraulic unit itself, describe accurately by the other folks already, was included in the service manual but without much detail. This leads me to believe it was an afterthought introduced later in production. If the one you saw is connected in any way to the drawbar it was probably done by the owner or an industrious dealer, not the factory.
