It really doesn't matter whether you go with 2 - 6 in series or 2 - 12 paralell. I've owned 7 diesels in my time; 3 were 6s and 4 were 12s. If they are not cared for and one battery fails the other is in trouble damn quick. In my opinion battery cables are the important item. On 6 cylinder diesels 1 gauge wire and soldered on ends. There have been many good batteries thrown in the scrap heap when in fact cables were the problem. I once put new cables end to end on a 100 hp Deere with 6 year old batteries, at Christmas. It started unassisted that winter in temps down to -25C. The batteries lasted 2 more years 2-12s in that one. When I say unassisted I mean no booster cables or block heater, I did use ether. That Deere was a bit lazy on cranking before cold weather hit in fall. If you are using ether in April you have something wrong. 806 are good starters. Any diesel has to be cranking good to start. If it does that it has to be pump, injectors or rings. I supose out on timing advance, that is a rareity on diesels
