I had the same problem witha 300u for about a season and a half. The problem, after I did everythig you guys are talking about was to remove a plastic inline gas filter I had put on. I was air locking. Couldn't figure it out for quite some time, thought it was the gas cap but it was the stinking fuel line filter, works prefectly now that I removed it. I quess it must of crested a vacum as the engine needed more gas and the gravity feed system was restricted with the filter.
