the play is most likely in the two bushings,one in the pitman shaft, the other in the steering wheel shaft. also if you take the sreering gear apart, the pitman shaft has the gear held on by a snap ring and a woodroff key. sometimes the keyways wear out, on minr i welded the gear to the shaft. but firts things to wear are the two bushings. hope that helps
