The "Mushroom" type air cleaner top is the standard one.The Collector Pre-cleaner as well as an intake pipe extension was used in dry,dusty conditions and available as optional equipment.
My 54 SH has the regular mushroom cap,but if I came across a cheap pre-cleaner,I'd get it.
2 other things worth mentioning; 1,Take the air cleaner assembly off and clean the whole thing with kerosene once in a while,it will make your tractor happier. And 2,if you do get a pre-cleaner-stick a little john deere tractor in the jar!
