The previously mentioned diode will fix your problem. You can get one at Radio Shack for under a buck. Try either Radio Shack p/n 276-1102 or 276-1103 or 276-1104. Any of them will work. Don't worry to much about figuring out the correct way to install it. Just try one way and then the other. One way will charge, and the other way won't. The wrong way won't hurt anything. You can also consider hooking up a battery disconnect switch in-line with the battery cable. Just remember to turn it off if you shut the tractor off for more than an hour or so.
