warm air intake flapper?

i have a 1965 706 gas. the manifold has a warm air gate valve to let exhaust heat intake air. outside the manifold there is a coil spring on the valve pivot shaft that has gotten too weak to move the flapper. the local ih dealer hasn't been of much help. i have two questions. 1)can anyone tell me which position(cw or ccw) the flapper/pivot shaft would be in for heating the incoming air(open?). when i manually turn the shaft cw the coil spring winds up tighter. 2)anyone know where i can get a new spring? thanks
