Hello ltf: I have not read any notes since I posted that Back EMF note about 12 days ago. You asked where I would put a resistor and I would use the factory setup as that was proven with millions of field tested hours. There are always many ways to get some electrical circuit to work and maybe work well for a while but half millions farmalls with factory setup can't be ignored. The name "condenser" is a poor name. It is really a NON-coil in the way it works electrically..just the opposite in operation from a coil..equal but opposite. The three key passive components are coil-capacitor(condenser) and resistor. These are three key items. The resistor dissapates electrical energy whereas the coil & condensor store and return current..The resistor, I would think, should be used to protect the points from surges by helping to shunt spikes to the condensor.. I wouls have to see each circuit to make a more defined answer. I hope this helps as I see you like to explain things quite well which is great.. I grew up around farmalls but didn't do much repair work untill now since its a hobby. best 2 you. harvey
