This seems to be one of those things that everyone has their own opinion on, but here's the way I see it. They originally used non-detergent because there was nothing better available at the time. Had detergent oils been available they probably would have been used. Today the only reason I can see to run one with non-det. in it is if you have a good unrebuilt engine that has used the non-det. all along (if you switched it to detergent oil suddenly you could loosen all the sludge and it may mess up your engine). I run detergent in what I own and plan on doing so until I hear a good reason not to. I haven't a clue about the reduced oil consumption. Hope this helps. SAm in NS
