The box under the gas tank is the hydraulic reservoir for the live pump and incorporates the “Liftall” valving.
The Liftall is for one-way (power lift/gravity drop) hydraulic cylinders. From your description it sounds as if your 3-point lift cylinder is set up for one-way operation by the Liftall.
The valve perched atop the clutch housing (frequently called the “Christmas tree” valve) is the optional 4-way remote valve. It is used to operate a 2-way (push/pull) hydraulic cylinders on mounted or towed equipment.
To use the 4-way valve you must first block off (either plug or valve off) the Liftall output ports. You then pull the Liftall lever back and latch it there. The system will now feed pressure to the 4-way valve.
Unfortunately you can't used both the Liftall and the remote 4-way at the same time.
