The 800 planter is a terrific planter. I bought a well-used endwise-transport 12 row back in '90, planted about 800 acres with it each year, and retired it this spring when I bought a excellent condition horizontal rear fold 800. I just got in from finishing my corn planting today, and the planter worked so well I'm STILL in a good mood. I love that planter. I bought a 800 6row a couple of years ago, mostly cause it was too cheap to pass up - this year I loaned it to my brother and he planted his 20 acres of corn with it. Both of these planters have been updated with the 900 style disc openers. If looking at used planters, on the 800 if the double disc openers measure 13.5" I'm told they need replacing. I think they measure 14" when new. I don't remember the dimension on the 400 series, but I think it's different. Generally, if they hold air, the drum revolves when it's supposed too, and there are no foreign objects in one of the seed tubes, it will plant.
