My secret to getting my H to pull

Ok now I've gotten some flack for not telling what my secret was on my last post a couple days ago. But then if I told you guys, I'd have to kill you all....LOL. Any way My H has most of the typical power stuff, oversized fire crater high compression pistons, a very light porting of the valve pockets. but when I finished building the engine it had loads of hi rpm power and wouldn't lug down very well. I'm an old hotrodder who has run a few extra degrees of timing advance on most every thing I've ever owned, which is the case with my H. I also turned up the rpm on the governor. This has been more of a hinderance than Help, My H will break the 4 MPH speed limit that our club uses at our pulls, so I can't open it up wide anyway. So now I got to thinking I have loads of power in the upper rpm but little in the lower rpm. If I were to retard the timing just a couple degrees I should lower the power band of the engine, this is what I found out worked well. I lost some in the higher rpm power and gained a bunch in the lugging power. Now I just wonder why it took me over a year to figure this out?
