the c-123 pu in my crawler would always run cold, kept diluting the oil with condesation because of it. i messed with the thermostat 5-7 times before i realized the one i got from c/ih was slightly thiner than what the retaining ring holds tight. it had about 1/32 up and down play- just enough to let the water bypass it. i cut some alum coil stock for shim and siliconed it in between the stat seat and the retaining ring so the stat can't lift. put water in it and it warmed up to perfect range and has been for 3 years now. check your stats so there is no up and down play, esp on that c with its 123 engine.
