Karl: Plowing is probably one of the most satisfing jobs on farm. I grew up on a trailer plow farm. To my dad trailer plow was king. In the early 70s I purchased a second neighboring farm. This man was also big on trailer plows. In 1975 I purchased a new 1066 with cab. About plowing time in fall IH dealer suggested I try this 510, 5 x 16 semi-mount plow he had in stock. Since I had a No 8 2x14, mounted 2x12, No. 60, 3x16 and 2 No 60 4x16 I really didn't need another plow as I only had about 300 acres to plow that fall. I said I would try it but don't expect to sell it. He delivered it and hitched it to 1066 at second farm. I was building a new barn at home farm. About two days later I get a call from the former owner of the second farm wanting me to bring him some diesel fuel, he said I'm plowing. I said there is 100 gal in tank behind barn. Oh, I have that all burnt and need another tank full to move to your home farm. When he got there he got my dad interested in this new semi-mount plow. Here was two of the most dyed in wool trailer plow men 63 and 66 years young, having a time of their lives with this new Farmall with cab and 5 bottom semi-mount plow. I asked them one day if they would consider letting me plow. They very abruptly told me NO. They told me they both had been plowing for over 45 years out in Nov. weather. This was what you call plowing in comfort. They advised me that at 32 years of age I had lots of cab plowing years ahead of me. I did manage to sneek in 5 acres on them one afternoon while they were both gone some where. The semi-mount plow stayed on farm the next spring I lugged 3 number 60 trailer plows of to a consignment auction. They bought enough money to pay for the semi-mount. Those two old guys plowed well into their retirement years. To them plowing was an art.

Pitfalls of Tractor Engine Rebuilds - by Chris Pratt. The first pop after you have put the machine together with your own hands is exciting and pleasing. The whole experience can be marred if one moves too fast and makes too many assumptions that they can just use "as is" some parts they should be closely scrutinizing and possibly attended to. In such cases, rework makes what could have been a fun project turn into an irritant or even a nightmare. Minor Irritants To give you an example of an minor but irritating proble
