Pre-cleaner assembly for Super A

I noticed that my Super A does not have a air filter or pre- cleaner. The hood has the hole for it but there is no sign of the assembly. I bought this old girl last fall from my neighbor and he said he never had one on her. Would not having a this on the tractor effect the preformance of it? Should I purchase one or leave it .Thanks in advance.
