I have to wonder what kind of abuse an H or M must see to have transmission and rearend problems? Dad was born in '45 and has told me that he never really saw anyone around here have trouble with the A thru W-9 series tractors, other than routine maintenance. My sister's father in law told a story one time of an M that was in for tranny/rearend overhaul and they sent it out without oil in it, finally remembered the next day - the guy plowed with it about 6 hours before adding the oil and never had a problem. They must have pre-lubed everything good when they put it together! And as already mentioned, these tractors are 50 to 60 years old and probably haven't had the maintenance they deserve, plus they are really good at getting water in the rearend.
