KB: I remember seeing this 966 when it was new, I was at the guys place spraying his corn. I even argued with him telling him he was only dreaming on the 436. I said they always had the 414 naturally aspired and the 1066 was same with turbo. I went home and checked the buyers guide, and sure enough it said 436 NA same as the hydro 100. That would have been the black stripe models. It was only a year or so later he bought the 1486. I suspect he just didn,t need the power anymore. As Aces said you have to watch the heat and that 966 would have been a prime target. The IH equiped turbos had what I think they called intercoolers. I remember this in advertising for 10, 14 and 15. There was a difference in those blocks I believe. I suspect my farmer friend was having some problems with that 966 and that was reason for the 1486 purchase. I personally think he was told that if he didn't stop pushing the 966 that hard he was going to have pistons out in middle of field. That's what happened to my 560 diesel after 17 years at 90-100 hp. It was on blower at silo, guys were changing wagons, and should have throttled 560 down. All of a sudden the boys had a shower of engine block, rings, pistons and rods. There were pieces 30' from tractor, and it's a wonder no one was hurt. The 560 was actually still running on 4 cylinders, don't believe it lasted long. I was in field and didn't see it myself. I saw the remains.
