Jonesy, You might try some octane booster in the gas, or pick up some gas at a local airport. Airplanes fly at high altitude as well, and have gas to match - a situation very similar to your pistons. Over time, the higher compression ratio of your pistons will cause the piston tops and the valve bottoms to have little dimples blown out of them, just the same way a piece of metal that has been left sitting outside will look like it has acne. I've seen the results in a few engines: it's not pretty. The other trick to try is to retard your timing a bit, but that's not as certain a cure as a higher octane gas.
