My dad & I used this combination in the sugar beet fields of western ND-Eastern MT.
We had 22" rows and the single front was very easy to use for cultivating and during harvest it wouldn't run over as much leaf so we could use the beet tops for animal feed.
The single front was also VERY easy to turn corners with when mowing alfalfa.
I have 2 GREEN tractors with the single front wlheel. One is a 1937 "BN" and the other a 1944 "AN".
