Gwen: Your problem is solved. Go to the first post made by CNKS, in there he describes the use of the letters in the casting codes. He is right up on these codes, whereas I am not. He states in his post the letter Z was used in 1954, thus C would have been used in 1957, making the tractor a 1957 Farmall 130. In this case the number 772 would not be a serial number as Farmall 130, serial number 772 was built in 1956. It could not have been built with 1957 castings. There is also a very remote chance 772 is the proper serial number and your tractor is a 1958 Farmall 140, as 140 serial number 772 was built in 1958. but it would have been late in 1958 as a few thousand 130 tractors were built in first half of 1958. Whether your tractor is a 130 or a 140 the serial number should be on left side of clutch housing, just below the fuel tank and just ahead of hydraulic unit. Clutch housing is the part the engine bolts to. The starter is on the right side. The serial tag will be just on oposite side about same height as starter. If the tag has been removed you should find 4 small holes in casting where rivits held it in place. The tag would have been about 1-1/2" high and 3-1/2" long. The 4 hole are probably about 3/16 and were in corners of tag. The engine serial number will be right under the number 1 spark plug, which is closest to front of tractor. On the side of engine casting will be a flat machined surface about 3/8" high and about 1-1/4" long. The number would have been stamped on that surface. It will be covered in paint, oil, grease, etc. Scrape it very gently with a knife, be careful as these number were not stamped very deep and heavy work with a knife can remove them. We are treating you very gingerly here, I have had to erase several time getting into areas suggesting your possible age. The guys never worry about this when conversing with each other. Going back do you remember when this tractor still had the grill and hood on it. Go to the photo gallery of this tractor page and under the search area, type in Farmall 130 & 140. Look at some of the pictures and compare them to the tractor as you remember it. You will find this very valuable.

The Day Tractor Lovers Dream About - by Angus Crawford. The day started at five o'clock on the morning of Friday, the January 29, 1999. My father, my sister, my uncle, my cousin and myself all climbed into my uncle's Toyota van. It was six thirty in the morning and we had a long day ahead. We traveled for six and a half hours to our destination - a little country town with a population of no more then one hundred and fifty people (57 of them being children under the age of thirteen). We arrived hoping to meet up with a man we knew had over one
