IH 154 final drive (about the same as on a Cub)

I just split my IH 154 cub lo-Boy, I am going to reseal the seals that are on both sides of the brake drum (one it the trans, the other on the differential shaft). I see that my shaft differential # 350 800 R2 had a grooves where the seal will ride, I hate to buy new shafts. I was wondering if anyone has set seals in more to the transmission and on the final drive side, maybe not hammer the seal all of the way in. Thanks.
