Ray: You say mechanical lifting mechanism, are you sure you have a Super A as they all have hydraulics. Not difficult to build a 3 point for these if it is a Super with hydraulics. All you need is the plow lift rockshaft that came with plows or cultivators. It bolts between the rear fenders, and has a pull rod going to tractor hydraulics rockshaft, beside fuel tank. Then just go to nearest tractor scrap yard and buy your self a set 3 point lower links complete with drop links with leveling crank and a matching top link. Put a set of catagory 1 pins on the plate your drawbar fastens to and weld brackets on center of the rockshaft for top link. Try and get 3 point links slightly shorter than ford or Fergie, as you don't want to put your load to far back. As far as the 6 volt I wouldn't change if its working and doubt if I would even if it isn't working. I like to put very heavy battery cables on these, that is the secret to 6 volt. If your cables look light I would stop some day at heavy truck repair shop, get them to make up a set of cable out of 1 guage wire with soldered on ends. I have changed a couple of tractors to alternator but stayed with 6 volt. I have a Super A with a 6 volt alternator and battery. Now ten years since I put the new battery and one month less on the 6 volt alternator. If you are thinking ever of doing this one, check it out in advance. Some parts of country they try and make you believe this is a major conversion. My supplier a rebuilder of heavy equipment electrics said all it requires is changing one wire within 12 volt GM Delco alternator. I didn't watch him, he was 5 minutes and the price was same as 12 volt alternator. There have been guys on here quoted prices 2 to 3 times the cost of a new 12 volt alternator. I tried this out in a town away from home and sure enough $250. for a conversion, told me it was major work. So watch that one if it ever hits you. On the caps that free one may take a year. Ask at CaseIH about it. You need a cap in the meantime. If you can't find one close by I have a few old caps around here. I'll give you one to tie you over until free one comes. Rad cap you can get at CaseIH.

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
