I wouldn't be surprised if you are right. A lot of these tractors worked on heavy loads with duals, and those duals just want to go straight ahead under heavy load. I know the front end on my 1066 was beat at 10,000 hours.

If I were you I would be tempted to look around for a supplier of 4 wheel drive front end. I have seen an inexperienced driver bury the front wheels turning and not being quick enough on brakes. The larger wheels will handle that a lot better and if they are pulling it will save the brakes on turning under load. Just take a drive somewhere there is a newer big tractor on a cultivator with 4 wheel drive, take it for a driv you will be convinced.
