A set of 4" sleeves and pistons will definitely work in the 3 7/8" original M. Are you trying to put 4 1/8" in an engine that is originally 3 7/8"?
I'm pretty sure the block has to be bored to take the 4 1/8" sleeves. If not, that means the original 3 7/8" sleeves had a wall thickness significantly greater than 1/4". Just a few thoughts.
