Micheal: Of the tractors you listed 56 series is the only way to go. They were and still are the very best IH ever built. The other item you should consider is 2 smaller tractors. Keep that front end loader away from the tractor you plan to do field work with. If I just bought 280 acre farm the first 2 items I would buy are a 656,666 or 686 and a 45 hp skidsteer loader. Fair warning , you will not pull the trailer, wagon or manure spreader very long with same tractor as you load with. Hitching and unhitching will take longer than the actual work. The next item you must consider if your farm is to be a viable farm and not a place for you to bank money with no interest. If you are going to be competitive with other farm operations, you must keep your total tractor hp some where between 1/4 and 1/2 horsepower per acre. If it is cash crop, you must hit the 1/4 hp mark. Livestock operations will require up closer to the 1/2 hp mark. If you don't adhere to this and you don't have deep pockets your farming operation will be toast in 3 years. Don't ever think because a tractor is older it is less expensive, it isn't. Just go to a CaseIH dealer and price out some of the major components of a 1066. In todays climate I wouldn't touch a 1066 unless I were cropping a 1,000 acres.

Avery model A tractors. I am quite sure that most of it is accurate. The General GG was made by the Cleveland Tractor Company (Cletrac) of Cleveland, Ohio. Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac.
