Jake, Couple of other possibilities I don't see mentioned. Some late H's had VR's mounted on the rear side of the rear gas tank support - but there should be two obvious holes there with captured nuts on the other end. Could be that somewhere along the way your SH lost its bracket above the starter and had the VR mounted on the generator, as somebody just swapped the generator. Was at the Portland, Ind swap meet this week and saw a tractor where a guy had the same problem. He drilled two holes and mounted the VR in the sheetmetal above the generator. A pretty silly looking solution - but real handy for working on the VR. Also saw a 300 that tried to follow me home, it had the VR stuck on the steering pedastal. My guess is the BobM and blarson are right about the bracket on the right front tank support. Maybe time to go to a swap meet lookin' for that part.
