I've never done this, but what I'd try would be what you are planning, except I'd leave the control valve in double-acting mode (this guarantees a return path from the splitter's return hose back to the reservoir - single-acting is really intended to work with a cylinder with only one hydraulic hose, a very uncommon setup these days). Something to check will be whether the hydraulic pump sounds much different with the control valve (on the tractor) locked back versus not locked back, and if the hydraulics start getting really hot while you're doing this. Probably will be some difference, but shouldn't be too much if things are working the way you hope they will. Also, note that you won't be able to use the hitch while you have this control valve going to the splitter locked back - supply line should be at low pressure except when you activate the splitter's local control valve.
