i have had a number of JD B's(39,41,44,46,48) and a 45 Farmall H and a 1940 Farmall M. i am a green person with a forbidden love of red stuff. my 39 b has a hand crank, no hyd and a factory seat . my '40 m has electric start hyd, remote hyd and a factory shock seat. in 1945 my father hadn't been born yet. if i was alive in 45 i know which one i'd buy....the red one and this is coming from a die-hard deere guy. it is a no-brainer when it comes to the two, the b is smaller than my m but a 40 h equipped like my m would still be nicer than the deere. the only time the deere's came close to the ih machines was near the end in 1958-1960. even then the ih 460-560's were out. in 1948-up deere had ih in one department. the seat. just my observations.......
