Pull the inspection plate off the bottom of the torque tube. With a flashlight, you may be able to see what is going on. Clutch pedal should have 1" of free play. Sounds like the throw-out bearing is getting worn and may need to be replaced. The cub uses a graphite block bearing, but there are standard bearing replacements now available from Bates Corp. and other places. If you stay with the graphite bearing, get one from IH, not one of the after-market ones - they don't seem to last very long.
