Mark, It could be the alternator or a wiring problem or a loose fan belt. I would check to be sure the belt is tight first. If that is ok I would use a voltmeter to be sure the Alternator is charging when the engine is running. Measure the tractor voltage with the engine off. Should be about 12.6 to 13 volts or so. measure it again with the engine running at something over 1,000 RPM. You should now read about 13.8 - 15 volts max. It is possible that the alternator is charging but the circuit driving the light is bad.
