Bob, It seems you have vast knowledge on this so share some with me if you can. My Farmall M has 12 volt on it and the diagram of the wiring is similiar to your 12v alternator w/magneto key switch and push to stop switch is the closest. The problem arose when it stopped charging. My alternator has a 2 wire plug and the battery terminal on it. The 2 wire plug was run to a black box (about 2x3 inches)and connected to the 1 & 2 post(it has 4). I have taken out the run to the black box and rerouted one to the battery and one to the switch (on/off)(This is how my dad's M was run). Now the unit charges but the amp gauge is pegging out at around 20 + amps. I would guess if the box is a magneto box that the alternator has a voltage regulator built in. There was no ballast resistor on it so I installed one but that caused the tractor to miss. I guessed then that the coil is 12 volt and I was only sending 6 volts to it. I guess my question is what is the magneto used for and is the amperage too high. Also could the black box have been a voltage regulator instead of a magneto? Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work!

The Cletrac General GG and the BF Avery A - A Bit of History - by Mike Ballash. This article is a summary of what I have gathered up from various sources on the Gletrac General GG and the B. F. Avery model A tractors. I am quite sure that most of it is accurate. The General GG was made by the Cleveland Tractor Company (Cletrac) of Cleveland, Ohio. Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac.
