Sounds to me like somebody just pulled all of the electrical stuff off of a junk car, and hung it on the tractor, a fairly common practice many years ago. Most of those conversions worked, but were never quite right. I doubt very much if your alternator has a built in regulator, the black box you refer to is the voltage regulator, the little thing that looks like a condensor is a condensor, but in this case, is functioning as a noise suppressor,to keep electrical hum out of the radio.
