Compression / Vacuum question on a CUB .....

My '52 Cub has started puffing a little bit of smoke (greyish in color). Plugs don't look wet (just a little bit of soft black soot). It's not using oil between changes.
I checked the compression as follows: 100 pounds on 3 of the cylinders and about 102 on the fourth cylinder.
Also, I ran the motor with a vacuum gauge attached and it read a very steady 17 & 1/2 inches. Is it time for rings maybe ?
