I wouldn't say you need to go as far as using it in direct and TA for equal amounts of time, but by all means, don't be afraid to use it. Shift it as fast as you possibly can to reduce slippage. Perform all maintainence and change Hy-Tran and filter as stated in the operator's manual. Get a repair manual and keep the clutch and TA linkages ajusted. Good luck with your 986, that's a real good machine.
