It was a 6V positive ground system from factory. It is a fairly simple system and can easily be converted to negative ground as Doug in OR is saying. However, you might want to look at the voltage regulator if it is equiped with one of them instead of a cut-out which was on early models (not sure when the voltage regulator came into play). Some voltage regulators must be wired up according to a specified ground. If not, it could be damaging to the regulator. I looked at a new regulator the other day that had stamped right on it Negative Ground. I was told it would not work on a positive grounded system. I don't know why myself, but I do know those voltage regulators are to expensive to be damaging them.
