As the others said, the modern seals are a big improvement over the old leather cup seals. I have only put one seal in on all my tractors where there was double original leather seals and have had no leaks (as long as the shaft is in good condition). I would think that the problem with installing multiple seals is that the outside seals do not see any lubricant from the gear case and would either wear out or wear the shaft. So by the time the inner seal leaks a little, the outer seal would be worn out. Roger
