Scotty, My oil filter had an external spring on it that is not shown in the manual. I think that the NAPA filter is supposed to be installed with the longer tube down and the shorter tube (with the internal seal) up, then the spring goes on top and the dome presses against it, which holds the filter down in the hole. Is that right? Without the spring on top, nothing would prevent oil from short circuiting the filter, I think. Thanks, Bill
