I remember Grandpa telling how he mounted blocks of wood to the clutch and brake pedals so Dad could run the M out in the field to cultivate.Dad was about 5-6 years old at the time. When I was 3 or 4 Grandpa had me sit in his lap and steer as he cut beans with an IH 303 combine with no cab, I think it was a 303 anyway. Grandma fixed both of us up with kerchiefs so we wouldn't gag from the dust. I may have the pic of that day around here somewhere. He worked the foot controls and the grain head, but by golly I was the one who kept it straight and turned at the end of the rows. Of course he was coaching me. What I wouldn't give to relive that day! My first driving lesson.
