oil in water

I've got a 1950 Farmall C that is getting motor oil in the water. The tractor ran good. It has a crack in the block on the left side app. 4 inches long above the carb. ( along the sleve walls 2&3) thats not the issue. I've got the head off now but before I put any money into this motor I need to know if oil can get into the water from the short block anywhere? I haven't had the head worked yet, & the head gasket didn't show a problem right out. We were messing with the rpm shaft and then the tractor started missing and has now power. There are no cracks in the cylinder walls. Looking for someone else that can help.
