K.B., If you're working on a budget and strike out finding one everywhere else -- you can try www.wicksaircraftsupply.com They have single needle gauges and senders starting from 40 to 50 dollars. Only rub might be that most aircraft EGT's have hose clamp type senders for tubular manifolds; instead of a screw in type for a cast manifold -- but the price is probably right. The screw-in's they do have are metric, so your German might be in luck. What's more, you can get them with 1, 2, and 4 needles to monitor 1, 2, or 4 cylinders or engines. Looks real whiz bang. Best place to locate the sensor is as close to the head as you can get. Max lean should be 1400 for a normal engine. Maybe 1500 if you don't care if the exhaust valves last, or if they're sodium filled or you have some trick coating in the cylinder and valves. Like the guys said a setting for a long lasting engine should be more like 1000 to 1200. Below 1000 degrees and you're probably just wasting a lot of fuel. The metal in German Diesels isn't any different than ours, so the USA numbers will work. The other nifty thing to get with a turbo is a detonation or vibration sensor. Gives you a good indication when you should turn down the boost by opening up the pop off on the waste gate (assuming the M&W has some such adjustment).

All these conditions can be signals that your unit is in need of a tune up. Ok, so what is involved in a tune up? You say, swap plugs and file the points....now tha
