REV JJ,You can be out 180%.Best way is to start at the beginning.Take the cover off under the gas tank,[4 bolt concave cover].line up the marks on flywheel[thats tdc].set the mag at #1 terminal with points just starting to open,don't force the bolts to thread in,they should go easily remembering that the bolt holes directly across from each other should line up.If you have any problems email me and I'LL send you some photo's.
