gene: I don't like to try and argue with your years of knowledge, however the 45 baler was around until 57. When my dad bought his first baler in 53-54 the two balers of choise were 45 and 55. With the nightmare of problems the 45 was creating both for farmers and dealers, I cant believe the 45 would have been kept on market if 46 had been designed and developed. The 46 was a very decent and respectable baler. In my area a New Holland dealer started up around 1958. Within a year his yard was full of traded in IH 45 balers. Before he started the nearest NH dealer was 100 miles away and that was a long ways in 1957. That NH dealer told me the day he opened his doors for business in 1958, he had 20 customers in the area with NH haying equipment. By the mid 1960s, I would judge 80% of the IH tractor, tillage and seeding customers were using NH forage and haying equipment. No I'm sorry I can't agree on the 46 baler being around in 1950. I know IH management weren't the sharpest knives in the drawer, but no one will convince me they were inept enough to allow the reputation of the 45 baler to go on for 7-8 years.

No. I am just happy to have their friendship. At least the word "farmer" is in my title. But what is the attraction? How can I explain the sensation and exhilaration I feel when I turn the key and hear the engine come to life (most
