Sounds like your shifter has slipped out of shifter rails. Remove the lever by removing the pin at the bottom of the shifter rod (not pin at spring on shifter lever) pull out shift lever and take a pry bar of some king and align the notches up and replace the shift lever in the notched. repace pin. There is a cap over the pin to keep it in place remove this with small pointd punch. You can get new caps at NAPA or the dealer.
