i had the same problem with my 460. all it would do is blow white smoke. it took forever but it fired off after cranking on it for 10-15 min off and on. after it started it took another 10 min. to clear itself up. i did rebuild my pump so it had alot of air in it. that was why it took mine so long to start. did you have your pump rebuilt or apart? are the glow plugs working? one guy said he used to take gas and diesel and mix them in a spray bottle then spray it into the head with the intake off to help start one that had pump work done to it. not sure of the ratio. if you timed the pump according to the manual (3 btdc on #1 and your pump lines match up under the cover plate) i would say you just need to crank it more. make sure you have the good batteries. just remember to give starter a break. be careful with the either as i have heard bad stories of using it. i would try not to use any.
