Scott: When you get to building up end of gear shift lever, it should be rectangle shape close to 1/4 x 1/2 and slighly rounded on corners. I find it is best to have it built a bit oversize a grind until you get it shifting smooth. Another possibility on the gear item and the fact you were shifting from 2nd to 3rd. This indicates one of the other rails had to move. When you get it freed up just move each rail separately to see if detent balls are holding them. This can compound the problem as if tractor is on a grade a rail with detent ball faulty can move. In fact you may find that is the problem, and not the shift lever at all. It's not rocket science, the first time it happened to me, 30 years ago, I didn't have a computer to turn to. That is why old farmers have no hair, scratching head trying to make it work better.
