Gosh, I haven't had one of those apart in years and forget the details. Seems to me there were a couple different versions too. I'm thinking that plate with the spiral groove is what keeps the end play out. That plate with the spiral groove pumps oil to the shaft and the grooves in the shaft work the oil along the shaft and back to the reservoir. Keep it filled with oil per the instructions in the operators manual. I've seen replacement fan assemblies on the market. Foreign made. I think they have sealed ball bearings in them, no oil requied like your old fan. Perhaps someone else out there can tell you more than I can.
