The first time that I changed the hydraulic fluid in the touch control of my C I got a surprise and a bath. Learned the hard way to crack the filler plug first and vent off any built up pressure. The fluid will get hot after running it for a while. The fluid is continually circulated through the system. The pump is a gear pump and is pumping anytime the motor is running. I changed the fluid in mine a couple of months ago. Filled it right up to the top of the fill hole. After running it for about 1 1/2 hours I blew the expansion plug out of the side of the control unit. $3.48 US a new expansion plug plus $5.00 shipping and handling.
