If you were working the lift-all hard, the oil may have gotten hot and wasn't able to lift a heavy load. Try again after a cool-down time. To answer your question, no you do not split the tractor to get the lift-all out. Remove the 3 outlet pipes and the control lever, take off the fill cap, then support the unit as you remove the 4 mounting cap screws. The drive lug will fall out as you let the unit down. Have help and patience when removing or installing the unit, it is HEAVY. You have to fit the drive lug in place before installing the mounting capscrews when reinstalling the lift-all unit. Non-detergent 30 weight oil should be used in the summer.
