J in Pa: I just went through the IT service manual and I can't see any mention of the pilot bushing. I have never had anything to do with 404, however the 100, 130, 140, 200, 230, 240, 404 and 2404, using C-123 and C-135 engines are covered in same IT manual and while cranks are different I suspect only difference is throw the C-135 having longer stroke. I have changed clutches in a number of C-123 engined tractors, and very seldom have I even changed the pilot bushing, as they aren't usually very troublesome.

One item I did notice is use of hydra creeper drive. If you are not familiar with it, a hydraulic motor that goes on pto and is driven by a remote outlet valve on tractor, and moves the tractor at a fraction of it's regular speeds via the pto and transmission. During use of this attachment tractor clutch pedal is held depressed. They make mention this requires a special release bearing as it is always turning while hydra creeper is in use. The same would be true of pilot bushing, and one would think a bearing would be required in place of bushing. Do you know if your tractor was ever used this way. My thoughts being that someone used this a lot, and shaft is worn where it enters pilot bushing. Have you ever checked this shaft size in relation to a new bushing? I am not suggesting I am right, but just a thought when going through IT manual and coming across this section on the hydra creeper drive.
